Countryside Oasis

Embarking on a remodel and addition project can be both exciting and challenging. For homeowners looking to create a luxurious and functional living space, the goals were clear: to create a main floor primary suite, additional outdoor living areas, a warm interior featuring all stained doors and trim (no painted white), and spaces for entertaining large groups while maintaining a private primary suite. The vision for the main floor primary suite was to design a serene and spacious retreat within the home, featuring a large walk-in closet with access to a new laundry room, a bathroom with custom tile work, and a cozy stone fireplace surrounded by a stained tongue and groove cedar ceiling.

Creating inviting and versatile outdoor living spaces was another priority. The expanded covered patio would feature an outdoor kitchen, a stone fireplace with a seating area, and a dining space, making it perfect for entertaining. Additionally, a secondary patio with a round gas firepit and bright red Adirondack chairs would offer a relaxing spot for more intimate gatherings. Inside, the homeowners desired a warm and cohesive interior that eschewed painted white elements in favor of stained doors and trim. Custom stained cherry cabinetry with slab countertops and custom tile detailing would enhance the overall aesthetic, while spaces for entertaining large gatherings were designed both indoors and outdoors. Transforming the existing formal living room into a home exercise room and a walk-in pantry optimized the use of space.

One of the biggest challenges was integrating the new addition seamlessly with the existing structure. This required careful planning and design to ensure the transition between old and new spaces felt natural and cohesive. Making the spaces feel grand despite the 9-ft ceiling height was another challenge, addressed through strategic design choices and attention to detail in the finishes and features. Hewn siding on the entire exterior added character and charm, while custom stained cherry cabinetry, stained tongue and groove cedar ceilings, stone fireplace surrounds, and scalloped marble tile backsplashes contributed to a warm and inviting atmosphere. Custom closet packages maximized storage and functionality, and a ‘floating’ stair system added a sense of openness and contemporary elegance to the home.

The remodel and addition project added 1,116 square feet of main floor living space and expanded the covered patio to 1,200 square feet. The new primary suite featured a stone fireplace and cedar ceiling, a bathroom with custom tile work, and a large walk-in closet with access to a new laundry room. New stained doors and trim were installed throughout the home, along with hardwood flooring and carpet. The kitchen showcased custom cherry cabinets with Cambria quartz slab countertops and a hammered nickel farm sink. The covered patio became an entertainer’s dream, featuring an outdoor kitchen with a bridge faucet, a stone fireplace with a cozy seating area, and a dining space. Beyond the covered patio, an additional patio area with a round gas firepit and bright red Adirondack chairs provided a perfect spot for relaxation. This remodel and addition project successfully achieved the homeowners’ goals, creating a warm, inviting, and functional living space that blends seamlessly with the existing structure while providing areas for both entertaining and private retreat.
